Antoinette Gaskins Mattingly is a fourth generation Hatteras Island artist. As the daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter of artists, she has enjoyed working in various mediums since childhood. They have all led to the work she creates in clay today.

She lives in the historic fishing village of Kinnakeet (Avon), N.C with her husband, their three kids (his and hers), a hound dog and a flock of chickens. Antoinette works full time as a ceramic artist from her home studio where she spends most days making both decorative and functional pottery with the dog barking, chickens clucking and kids running in and out…
Life is good!
I am influenced and inspired by the color, texture and organic movement of nature. I’m fascinated by clay’s malleable characteristics, its possibilities in capturing texture and color. Clay has the ability to record movement and freeze a chosen moment in time.
